Burger and fries

July 4, 2011

It’s July 4th, Independence Day, so it seemed right to plump for an all-American meal: home-made beef burgers with melted cheese, crispy bacon, crunchy lettuce and red onion, all topped with tomato ketchup and sandwiched in a bap: just missing the gherkin.

Yes, I would like fries with that...

Home-made beef burgers (makes 2)

250g minced beef
1 egg
1 slice breadcrumbs
1 T mustard
1 T ketchup
salt and pepper

1. Combine all the ingredients in a food processor or mix roughly by hand

2. Shape into patties

3. Cook on a hot griddle pan

Serve with your choice of toppings in a lightly toasted soft roll.

I’ve come across quite a few burger recipes so far this year and I’ve been putting them off until the Summer. As we’re now in July, I’m therefore declaring Burger Week, with a different burger every day this week from Monday to Friday (and plenty of salad!) On Saturday I’m planning to go to the Cardiff International Festival of Food and Drink in Cardiff Bay, which has been a great event in previous years. I’m intend to come home loaded with perry and brimming with inspiration.
