Osteria Pulcinella, Twickenham

May 21, 2011

We spent the day at the Emirates London 7s in Twickenham and sloped off slightly early in search of something delectable for dinner after distinctly disappointing and expensive food in the stadium.

Osteria Pulcinella is a pleasant half hour stroll in the sunshine away and has a succinct and seasonal menu that showcases the delights of simple meals cooked using well-sourced ingredients. After much thought I had the strascinati with luganica sausage and broccoli in a white wine and chili sauce, and H had penne with chicken, chili, garlic, spinach and cream.

We were very impressed, and regret that we didn’t have the time, money or digestive capacity to stretch to three courses and a full bottle of wine. Having refused the dessert menu, my resolve nearly weakened when I heard the neighbouring table discussing the choices.

It’s a lovely little venue; deceptively large for its cosy feel. I want to come back to try both the lumaconi and the pappardelle, so will need to plot reasons to return to London.
